About Us

Tom Hunt is a Native American originally from North Carolina. He began to learn the trade and art of wood finishing over twenty years ago, starting with furniture finishing and antique furniture restoration. As a finisher with his roots in furniture quality finishing, he has brought that dedication to the creation of fine finishes on architectural woodwork.

We believe that a great finish starts with a great color, and we create color on wood with 'fuming', aniline dyes, wood stains, and penetrating stains. The finish that we apply over the color varies according to what kind of look is desired, and how durable the finish needs to be. For a rich, warm glow in an area that will be treated delicately, an amber shellac finish, hand-rubbed and waxed. For more durability, lacquer or catalyzed lacquer still look and feel good while giving more protection. There are other options

Hunt Fine Finishing has worked in exclusive homes and offices in Manhattan, Connecticut, and Westchester, as well as Long Island and the Hudson Valley. We are not only known for the quality of our finishes, and for our ability to meet the architect's expectations, we also believe in courtesy to the contractor and the homeowner. We come to job sites when we say we will, are responsive to concerns and questions, and strive to work in a clean and orderly fashion with as little disruption as possible.
